MUMBAI: An American comedy writer is suing Disney. He says that the broadcaster's TV show Hannah Montana was his idea and he was never compensated.

Buddy Sheffield filed the Los Angeles Superior Court suit against Disney alleging breach of contract, breach of confidence, unfair competition and unjust enrichment.

Media reports state that he alleges that he pitched an idea for a TV series called Rock and Roland to Disney in 2001. The story revolved around a junior high school student who lived a secret double life as a rock star. In his suit he says that Disney passed on the concept.

Hannah Montana is about a girl who goes to school by day, and under cover of an alias, rocks the music world by night. It debuted on Disney last year. The series has made a star of Miley Cyrus, who handles Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana duties, created a Dancing with the Stars-worthy celebrity for country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, who plays his real-life daughter's TV father, and launched two hit soundtracks.
