MUMBAI: The AB International Distribution Group has reached an agreement with Galaxy 7 (France) and Spectra Animation (Canada), co-producers of the animated series Fred's Head, under which AB will distribute the series worldwide. The only excluded territories are Canada, France and the USA, which will be handled by Galaxy 7 and Spectra International Distribution (SID).

This animated TV series of twenty-six 24 minute episodes was developed from an original concept by Benoit Godbout and Malorie Nault-Cousineau. Aimed at an 11-to-14-year-old audience, the series will air on Teletoon Canada and France 2 beginning in January 2008. France 2 has already slated it as one of its headline series for the winter season.

The producers say that they are thrilled to be able to count on Teletoon and France 2 as broadcasters for this project, which is aimed at a target audience that is often neglected or undervalued. Three separate audio versions have been designed to satisfy the needs of the three principal markets: two in French (one for Quebec and one for France) and one in English. This assures that the voices of the series will be relevant to the lives of the young people who watch it, using a language they can identify with.

Fred's Head is a comedy that follows a 16-year-old boy as he tries to find his place in today's world. Over the course of his various adventures, numerous eccentric characters will influence him in his quest for identity: we'll be introduced to the anachronistic best friend whose style of speech is decidedly retro; the love interest who's clearly not interested; the girl-gang of pop-star clones; the chick who's heavily into gore-flicks; the psychotic psychologist; and a host of other characters, each more colorful than the next.

With its fine blend of irony and dark humor, Fred's Head gives viewers a teenager's view of the world. Consumerism, celebrity and social exclusion are among the realities that the series explores… realities which Fred confronts and seeks to understand with his never-ending supply of sarcasm and unfailing sense of absurdity.

Fred's Head has been produced in high definition using HDSR technology - the highest-quality standard available. Fred's Head will also have its own website developed and built by Tribal Nova. Various mobile phone applications, including mobisodes - phone-viewable episodes - will also be developed.

The series is directed by Sylvain Lavoie and Benoit Godbout, who is also co-creator of the series. The executive producer is Luc Châtelain (Spectra Animation), associate executive producer is Anne Evrard (Galaxy 7), producer is André A. Bélanger and associate producer is Dominique Mendel.

Spectra Animation is a subsidiary of L'Équipe Spectra specialising in the production of animated films and TV series. Among the projects produced in recent years are the excellent series Kid Paddle, broadcast by Teletoon Canada and co-produced with Dupuis Audiovisuel and M6 (France); and the preschool series Toupie et Binou (Toopy and Binoo), which has been airing on Treehouse and Télé-Québec for nearly two years now.
