Microsoft Hardware celebrates 25th anniversary

BANGALORE: Microsoft Hardware is celebrating its 25th anniversary of delivering computer peripherals.

The computer major's journey began in 1982 with a Microsoft Mouse designed to easily navigate Microsoft Corp.'s first version of Microsoft Word.

 

Kicking off the celebrations the company has unveiled a line-up of products which include – special gaming peripherals, wireless mice, keyboards and webcams for the Indian customer for the coming year.

 
In India, the company has a network of 9500 plus dealers/retailers in 93 cities and expecting to reach 100 cities soon. It has set itself a target of crossing the millionth customer mark in India in 2007.

"This 25 year journey has witnessed the growth of the business to being the leader in the computer peripherals space, not only in terms of value but also the mindshare we hold with the customer. By providing innovation and value to the customer both in terms of technology and design, we have continuously raised the bar on providing the best computing experience to the Indian customer. We are targeting a growth rate of over 50 per cent for the next year," said Microsoft entertainment and devices division country manager Mohit Anand.

It is also focussing on the fast growing gaming peripherals category, which, according to industry estimates is expected to grow at a CAGR of 72 per cent for the next 4 years.

The latest range of gaming peripherals from MS hardware includes Reclusa gaming keyboard, side winder gaming mouse, and the wireless Xbox 360 gaming controller, which is expected to be the show stealer this year in this category. So, while the Xbox 360 gaming controller works both on the PC as well as Xbox 360, the sidewinder Mouse is the first ever gaming mouse with LCD display. The products aim to offer the user the ultimate gaming experience.
