Govt. rules out traning centres for judges in cyber crime

NEW DELHI: Although the National Crime Records Bureau admits there has been increase in cyber crime over the past few years, the Government today ruled out any plans at present to set up specialized training centres for providing training in the area of cyber crimes to judges.

 

However, Minister of State for Law and Justice Venkatapathy told Parliament today that the Government conducts regular awareness and training programmes on cyber laws and cyber crimes for Judicial Officers.

He also said the National Judicial Academy at Bhopal conducts programmes to train judges in cyber laws and cyber crimes, and 43 judges participated in each of the workshops conducted by the Academy in 2004 and 2006.

 
The Bureau last week said a total of 481 reports of cyber crime were reported in 2005 compared to 347 in 2004 and 471 in 2003. These crimes were registered under the Information Technology Act 2000 and the Indian Penal Code. In addition, the Central Bureau of Investigation registered nine cases during the present calendar year till 31 July, compared to three in 2006, four in 2004 and only one in 2003.
