Star ties up with several operators for upcoming mobile platform

MUMBAI: Plus, a mobile application will shortly be launched by Star Mobile Entertainment a division of Star.

It will be available across the country in associations with Hutch, BSNL, Idea, BPL, Spice and MTNL. Plus will look to be a one-stop gateway to entertainment, information and services on the mobile.

 

The Plus application will be a free download and the service will come with a 30/-Rs per month subscription charge though initially, subscribers will be offered a free one month trial. Users can download the application via a General Packed Radio Service (GPRS) connection or Wireless Application Protocol (Wap). Currently the application is compatible with nearly 220 different handsets.

The subscription pack enables the mobile user to enjoy downloads of unlimited video clips from TV, movies and music, and provides news and updates from sports and entertainment These include over 200 TV video clips per month.

Also available on Plus will be a TV Guide for program schedules, Mobile Banking with HDFC (allowing you to check your bank balance and last 3 transactions), Mobile Travel & ticketing with makemytrip and travelguru, Yellow Pages information search, Astrology, News and more. That’s not all - the all-new mobile application also allows the user to view synopses of various daily soaps and entertainment shows across all the Star channels.

 

Star Mobile Entertainment senior VP Viren Popli says, “Mobiles have become multi-media devices but their current usage in India is limited. Many consumers today have a high-end mobile phone and want to do more with their multimedia devices, seeking entertainment and information on the go. This is the rapidly growing niche we are confident PLUS can exploit.”

Plus‘ menu interface is user friendly and quick to respond making the access to entertainment on mobile far easier than it is today. Research across consumer groups in multiple cities reflected Plus as an enhanced experience on mobile in its ease of use, and navigation and it is projected to eventually penetrate to the mass mobile user.

Plus also provides a high quality standard of video and audio to ensure the best mobile multimedia experience available. Users can even preview content before downloading it, a feature that is not available through any other mobile application.

Star Mobile Entertainment to spend Rs. 150 million on marketing and promotional activities for Plus. At launch Plus subscribers will have access to various privileges from the service’s partners including 50 per cent off on all air tickets booked through makemytrip.com, 50% off on all hotels booked though travelguru.com, exclusive access to international music concerts, exclusive access to TV shoots, opportunities to star on a Channel [V] show.
