MUMBAI: Ten television channels - including some Indian channels, and AXN and FTV which ran into trouble in India recently - have been banned in Bangladesh as their operations were found to be contrary to the Cable TV Network Operation Act 2006.

The other channels are Music India, the Star TV's Channel V, Zoom, Ren TV, Gcop, Cine Max, The Music, and Trendz.

In a notification issued today, the Information Ministry banned the downlinking of the ten satellite TV channels as ''these are contrary to clause 19 of the Cable TV Network Operation Act 2006''.

The notification said no television channel would operate without approval of the government. Permission from the Information Ministry will be required to operate any new channel in the country, it added.

At present, nine private television channels are operating in the country apart from the state-owned Bangladesh Television.
