MUMBAI: Acting on expected lines, Star India today officially
elevated Ajay Vidyasagar to president, content and new media.
Vidyasagar's promotion from EVP content and communication, along
with other changes announced today for the next rung of leadership,
effectively completes the leadership matrix that has been instituted
following the departures of Star's corporate CEO Peter Mukerjea
and operational CEO Sameer Nair.
As regards new media, Vidyasagar will be heading Star's overall
Internet business in close association with Fox Interactive
in Los Angeles. The expectation is that it will be through this
subsidiary that News Corp's hugely popular social networking
website MySpace will be launched in India, going forward.
As already reported by Indiantelevision.com, Star will have
three presidents functioning directly below COO Uday Shankar
in Vijay Singh (strategy and corporate development), Paritosh
Joshi (advertising sales and distribution) and Vidyasagar.
Two other significant announcements made today were:
*Himavat Chaudhuri, currently in charge of regulatory and
government affairs, has been promoted as general counsel to
succeed Ajay Sharma who recently quit to join Peter and Indrani
Mukerjea's INX Media.
* Sonali Thakker returns to Star heading the HR function
as EVP, organizational development and talent management.
Working with Thakker is Rishi Gaind, promoted to SVP, Human
Resources.
