MUMBAI: following its success worldwide on Playhouse Disneys and Disney Channels, the learning-focuSsed, animated preschool series Disney's Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is attracting yet more young fans among free TV viewers across the globe.

Disney's international television distribution arm Buena Vista international Television (BVITV) has licensed the series on free TV to over 80 territories outside of the US, including seven free-to-air broadcasters in the Asia Pacific region.

Starring Mickey Mouse, the song-filled Playhouse Disney series combines the Disney tradition of storytelling with contemporary CG animation and encourages interactivity to promote a child's cognitive, social and creative learning. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is the first television series starring Mickey in CGI and although the animation is contemporary, the series' designs are referential to classic character drawings of the 1940s.

Set in Mickey's colourful clubhouse environment, the stories, each built around a "theme of the day," include Mickey speaking directly to preschool age viewers, posing questions and inviting them to "help" solve practical problems such as what to do when Goofy's bouncy ball is out of control, or when Donald has turned into a frog and needs a kiss from Princess Daisy to return him to his natural state.

To reach the story's goal, Mickey cheers viewers on as they help identify shapes, patterns and numbers and decipher picture puzzles among other early math curriculum. Mouseketools, gear that helps Mickey advance the story, and Toodles, a device that organizes and reinforces the episode's learning, are included in the stories.

Licensees of the preschool series include GMTV in the UK, Seven Network Australia, TVNZ New Zealand, TF1 France, Super RTL Germany, RAI in Italy, TVE Spain, Channel One Russia, RTE Ireland, Fiji TV, Kids Central Singapore, TVB Pearl Hong Kong, TV3 Malaysia and KBS Korea.

In Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the series has been shown in over 100 million terrestrial TV homes. In the UK, it premiered on free-to-air in December 2006, airing on GMTV in the mornings.

In France, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse airs on leading free-to-air channel TF1. In Germany, the series airs every weekday on Super RTL.

In the Asia Pacific region, over 33 million unique viewers watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse in 2006, including 9 million kids on Disney Channels and Playhouse Disney Channels.

Buena Vista Worldwide Television president Laurie Younger says, "We are delighted to introduce a whole new audience of prescshoolers to "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" a vibrant and interactive series that combines Disney classic characters with state-of-the art 3D computer animation. We look forward to working closely with our free-to-air broadcasters across the globe to bring this exciting and educational preschool series to their younger viewers, building on its early success."
