Disney, Videonline sign VoD deal for Hong Kong

MUMBAI: Disney’s international TV distribution arm Buena Vista International Television-Asia Pacific (BVITV-AP) has concluded a multi-year video-on-demand (VoD) movie agreement with ViDeOnline Communications.

This is a third-party provider of VOD content over broadband, mobile and IPTV. This is Disney’s first VoD agreement in Hong Kong and is in line with the company’s focus on the application of technology to enhance its content and expand its distribution to deliver anytime and anywhere.

This agreement will make available a range of current and library features from Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone Pictures and Miramax Films for rent on-demand via ViDeOnline’s O8Media internet platform, which launches this month in Hong Kong.

In addition, this agreement allows ViDeOnline to distribute the Disney movies on-demand to Hutchison broadband customers on a pay-per-view and subscription basis allowing users to rewind, pause and fast-forward during the movie. Hutchison launches its broadband to PC service in April jointly with ViDeOnline’s O8Media platform. Disney movies on-demand will also be available to Hutchison TV customers when the company rolls out its digital set-top-box service later this year.
