Gotham Ent. launches Virgin Comic magazines in India

MUMBAI: Gotham Entertainment Group (GEG), publisher of international comic magazines for India, has announced that they will kick off the launch of the Virgin Comics magazines in India this month.

Originally published in the United States and currently being translated into numerous languages around the world, GEG now makes these comics available to audiences in India, announces GEG co-founders, Sharad Devarajan and Suresh Seetharaman.

"Over the last decade, under the Gotham Comics brand, GEG has introduced Indian audiences to comic book titles featuring global characters such as Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, X Men, Hulk and many others. In keeping with our commitment of bringing the best youth content from across the world to India, we believe the groundbreaking artwork and stories produced by Virgin's creators will resonate profoundly with today's Indian youth market," said Seetharaman.

"I am extremely excited with the international success of Virgin Comics and all of that success is owed to the latent creative talent here in India. Therefore I am extremely impatient for the Indian youth to also experience these comics and I promise them its going to be a very mythic experience," commented acclaimed filmmaker and Virgin Comics co-founder Shekhar Kapur, "I am so happy we have been able to tie-up with Gotham Comics which is India's leading comic publisher. Through their distribution we stand on the same platform as worldwide brands such as Marvel and DC Comics."

"The Virgin Comics Shakti Line is India inspired and we expect these comics to resonate well with the contemporary Indian youth." said Gotham Comics Sr. VP marketing Samarjit Choudhry. "We believe that the Virgin Comics range added to our existing portfolio of comics we will see a huge revival in the comic reading habit in India"

Gotham Comics has just launched the first three Virgin Comic titles in India, including Devi and Snake Woman titles, which were both created by Shekhar Kapur. In addition, they have launched The Sadhu which follows the story of a British soldier who discovers the mystical powers of Indian sadhus. The international comic series is now being developed by actor Nicolas Cage as a feature film. In the upcoming months Gotham Comics will also launch Virgin's, Ramayan 3392 AD, a futuristic sci-fi story inspired by the original Ramayan mythology, created by Kapur and author, and Virgin Comics co-founder Deepak Chopra.
