After Zee and Sony, it is the turn of Sahara TV to bag the telecast
rights of over 20 films from Boney Kapoor's production house for
telecast on the channel.
Sahara, that has already aired Pukar and Mr India, the two grossers
from Narsimha Enterprises, the Boney Kapoor production outfit, has
secured the rights for films as diverse as the old Hum Paanch, Woh
Saat Din, Judaai and the just released Shakti (which was produced
under the banner of Sridevi Productions). While channel officials
are loath to admit
the precise number of films acquired, it is learnt that the channel
will soon begin telecasting these films, particularly when the serial
with filmstar Karisma Kapoor goes on air.
The channel is however playing it safe, and will air Shakti-The
Power after the mandatory six month period after its release in
cinema theatres, say sources. Sahara has already struck a deal with
Boney Kapoor for a serial that will showcase the histrionic talents
of wife and former filmstar Sridevi, who has not made a screen appearance
for years. While the serial, first slated for a launch by the end
of this year, does not seem to be likely to materialise till the
end of this fiscal, the current big ticket show for Sahara is the
one with Karishma, which has gone on the floors recently.
Among the films that Sahara is said to have acquired the rights
to are - Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche, Humara Dil Aap Ke Paas Hai and
Drohi, apart from Mr India, and films made under Boney's father
Surinder Kapoor's banner, who made films like Judaai, Loafer, Woh
Saat Din and Hum Paanch.
