MUMBAI:
After generating revenue of approximately Rs
855 million across 26 countries in 10 days,
Jodhaa Akbar is now ready to release
in more than 150 screens in Tamil and Telugu
on 6 March 2008 in the southern market.
Despite
having a ban in Rajasthan, which is one of the
key markets for this genre of movie, the film
has succeeded in collecting a gross amount of
Rs 527 million in India. In the US, it has raised
around Rs 100 million while in the UK it has
earned around Rs 56 million.
Speaking
to Indiantelevision.com, UTV Motion Pictures
director Siddharth Roy Kapur said, "We
are very happy with the gross collection that
Jodha Akbar has generated all across
the globe. And now with its release in more
than 150 screens in Tamil and Telegu, there
is a further rise in its revenue-building expectations."
Though
the film has fallen prey to huge controversies
calling for the suspension of its screenings
in Madhya Pradesh, UTV is confident of the film's
success in the south.
"The
southern market has been eagerly awaiting the
release of Jodhaa Akbar for a long time
now. Also, as the release is on 6 March, during
the Mahashivratri festival, we would be enjoying
the benefit of a long weekend," added a
hopeful Kapur.
